Mmmm Carbonated Water

Mmmm Carbonated Water
I scream, you scream, we all scream for - bet you thought I was going to say ice cream, right? WRONG. We should all be screaming for SodaStream!!! In case you’ve never heard of it, it’s a home water carbonating machine. I got one for Valentine’s Day and let me just say it’s the newest love of my life! Holy cow people it is AWESOME! I can’t help but use way too many exclamation marks in this blog because that is exactly how I feel. I would shout it from my rooftop if A) it wasn’t covered in snow right now and B) it wasn’t so high off of the ground (I live in a 2-story).
This wonderful machines conviently turns tap water, or any water for that matter, into sparkling water in less than 30 seconds. You choose your desired level of fizz (my machine has 3 levels) and once the water is carbonated you can add flavour to jazz up your drink, or not if you’re in a plain kind of mood. It’s seriously easy folks and so much fun!
I really hope the novelty doesn’t ware off and I continue to crave “fun water”. My eight year old son is mesmerized by this machine and is constantly asking for fizzy water. I don’t know about you but, drinking 8 glasses of water a day turned into a chore for me recently. Since this machine came into my life I’ve been chugging the stuff, well like water!
In terms of flavours you can use anything that you would use to flavour flat water. So even though the company sells their own line of flavours (around $6.99 for a bottle that will make 27L and you find them anywhere SodaStreams are sold) you aren’t limited to using them. So far I’ve used fresh lemon & lime juices in my water, crystal light liquid flavour, and iced tea powder and they’ve all been delicious! My machine even came with a 9 unit sample flavour pack and each complimentary pack was enough to flavour one litre.
Let’s talk about price, yes the sodastream is not cheap, they sell models from as low as $89.00 (seen at Wal-Mart) all the way up to almost $200. For that price you get the machine (for a comparison of the different machines go to: and click “Help Me Choose Which Machine Is Right For Me”). In addition to the flavour pack, the machine comes with a CO2 carbonation tank which will fizz 60L of water and a 1L water bottle.
You’re probably wondering what do you do once you run out of carbon? Well you simply take your empty tank back to an authorized retailer and you can purchase a new one for $19.00, or you can buy a new tank for $34.99. I personally will be sure to always take back my old talk to swap it out for a new one. When you compare how much a case of Perrier water will set you back ($19 at your local grocer - $16 if you buy it on sale) I personally feel the SodaStream will more than pay for itself in the end!
The only slight negative I have had so far with my SodaStream is that my machine came with an sample flavour pack that had a “Best Before: JAN 2014” sticker on it. I send an email off to customer service and they shipped me out a replacement the next day! It was so easy. I didn’t have to send a proof of purchase, or pictures, or return the old product. Their customer service was fantastic!
In case you were wondering if this machine is worth it or not, my two cents is that it’s definitely a great buy! Check out this cheesy commercial if you’d like to see Scarlett Johansson save the world one sip at a time:
